A Busy Little Saturday
With two little boys we are on the go most weekends but nothing like this past weekend. From the moment we woke up we started checking off our to do list.
Logan's first indoor soccer practice/game. He was running around all morning prior to his game like a little bumblebee. The cutest bumblebee, I might add.
While Justin took Logan to his soccer game, Kaden and I got a few things done around the house since time was limited that day and I was headed out early the next morning for work. Justin and Logan barely made it in the driveway before Kaden and I were hopping in. Kaden was headed off for Science Saturday at one of his teacher's houses and Logan was getting a little quality time with Justin and I both. He loved it and so did we.
But before we knew it, our time was up with our littlest man was over and we were headed to pick up Kaden and then it was off to another soccer game. Basketball shoes and all. Hey, you do what you gotta do when it comes to inheriting the Hartley's weak ankles.
& while Kaden was at soccer the littlest man took a nap, in his new favorite napping spot. A tent that we have had for a couple years now & they just rediscovered.
He needed a nap because a night of fun awaited him at Parent's Night Out--American Ninja Warrior style.
That's right--the boys had fun four hours of fun while Justin and I had a little night out of our own, to his company's party but still a night out of our own.
Both boys came home exhausted, Justin and I were exhausted and my 5:30 am wake up call on a Sunday came WAY too early.

Cheers To A Great Season
Well it came to an end a little too early but they certainly gave it their best shot though and we were just happy to experience a playoff win for the first time in a very long time so to me, anything more than last week's win was the cherry on top.
Plus we got to wear our RED for a little while longer. Started out with Red Friday.
and the dogs even joined in on the fun on Saturday.
Even Stoli was raising her hands for a win.
Maybe this coming season will be the season they do it. The season that we finally get to take the boys to a Chiefs game because after this past season the boys are begging to go. They know what a Royals game and a Royals ticker tape parade feels like, they have no idea what it means to bleed red.

Winter Soccer Begins
After our last round of soccer we decided to give the boys a break over the holidays and not sign them up any sort of sporting function --you know, maybe sleep in and do nothing on Saturdays and Sundays for awhile kind of thing.
January rolled around and we realized that we needed to get them out of the house and burn off some extra energy so we looked into a few winter programs. Soccer won out. We decided to go with a new league--Future Legends of Kansas City. We had heard good things but really wasn't sure what to expect. We had missed the deadline by just a couple days---story of our lives as parents thus far---but luckily they had a few spots available. We started down the enrollment process and they suggested that since Kaden was going to be 7 in August that we go ahead and let him play up an age group. I agreed since he is on the taller side and just hoped that it would do him more good than harm...
The first night did not go well. Kaden was only 4 days out from a pretty bad ankle sprain and successfully managed to twist it at least twice---tears both times and I had my doubts about how this session was going to go...
Guess we will see.

Friday Night Project---Striped Accent Wall
It's never really good when I get bored at home because I end up starting a project with merely what I have on hand.
I've been wanting to do a striped wall but each of the walls I picked out Justin vetoed but finally I found a wall that he didn't mind me experimenting on---or he was tired of me asking and just said yes.
We have been spending more and more time in the basement these past few months---partly because I have a treadmill down there, partly because we just hooked up our Apple TV down there and partly because the boys' air hockey table is down there. & since we are spending more and more time in our basement, I wanted it to feel just as homey as it does upstairs because as it sits now, it doesn't. We have a couple sports memorabilia hung on the walls but other than that, its a start Johnson County Tan.
So it was time to start someplace & why not with a blank wall that we know we won't be hanging our Royals jerseys on since the sun shines through there in the morning. This wall wouldn't be getting a TV either because of the glare and configuration of the room. Basically this wall needed a little love so it got stripes.
I started this little project, and I say little because really it was only three stripes, around 8 pm on a Friday night, a RBV in hand and two little boys as my supervisors.
I started out by reading a post I found on Pinterest--lazy girl's time-saving tips to painting stripes, you can find it here, & she pretty much gave the confidence to just go for it.
Basically, use odd numbers so then you never have to paint the top of the wall and deal with the ceiling or the bottom of the wall and deal with the baseboards--genius, I know. She also suggested that when you measure the entire wall (87 1/2 inches for me) & divide by 7, making them each 12.5. If you ended up with a number with lots of decimals you can add that extra to the top stripe and the bottom stripe which would make each of them a little larger but not by much and you wouldn't be able to tell. See her example--it probably makes more sense then what I just wrote.
& by 10 o'clock, we had a striped wall and the only question now, what to put on the wall. Since this is our basement, semi man cave, rec room, I knew I could get away with a lot of "family" pictures down here. Justin already feels like I have pictures all over the house, which I do but it just comes with the territory. I knew I wanted a gallery wall of sorts but wasn't sure what to showcase.
But I did find these lovely frames at Ikea on closeout--$12.99 a pop. and I got 6.
You can also see that the bottom stripe is a little larger than the rest, maybe by like 2 inches, I messed up on my math but since it is at the bottom, I'm not the least bit worried or annoyed by it.
I went to Hobby Lobby and had a new mat cut for each of the frames making the openings only 5x5 & used the Mpix app on my phone to order a few prints from my Instrgram account. We decided to showcase our favorite images from the Royals road to being World Series Champs. We picked an image of the four of us from Game 6 of the ALCS, one of Justin and Kaden at game 6, and then a few of the Ticker Tape Parade. & most importantly, Justin is happy with it, I didn't Kayla-ize this wall too much.
I went back to my handy painters tape and used it as a guide when hanging each of the frames. I botched the first attempt as I didn't take into account the light switch but luckily I used 3M Command Strips and was able to move them with ease & then I ran out of my 3M strips...
A quick trip to Target and we were back in business & in a matter of minutes, the project was complete. Now we just need to add a couple of poofs on the floor in front of this wall and this little corner is complete & it will be on to the next project---maybe a little reading nook or an office nook.

Kaden and Logan helped by marketing the areas that I wouldn't be painting, just for a little more clarification.
And then I walked to our storage area and pulled out the paint--the same Sherwin Williams Duration paint that is in our dining room. The rest of the open spaces in the house are painted this lighter color but we went for a few shades darker on the dining room & I figured that if the colors looked okay there, they would look okay here too. Now, I should state, that I really would have rather had lighter stripes but I wasn't going to paint the whole wall to only repaint stripes. I'll take the easier route on this one.
I should also note, I wasn't worried too much about that after result. If I didn't like it, I would just paint over it, it's only paint.
I did two coats, probably could have gotten away with one because it is quality paint but there were a few areas that needed touched up so I just went over the whole thing again.

A Chiefs {Playoff} WIN!
& what makes this even more exciting is that this is the first time EVER, both teams made the playoffs in the same year. & when the Royals were going on their playoff run we made sure to have plenty of blue in our wardrobe so the same had to happen for the Chiefs too. I made a special run to Kansas Sampler on Friday to get new gear for each of us. We were keeping our fingers crossed that the Chiefs would win on Saturday and hoping we would get a little more use out of our new stuff but either way, we had to show our LOVE for our Chiefs too.
We started Saturday out with a little errand running and lunch out, Kaden's pick since he had such a great report card. He chose "bar food" so we went to The Bar off of Johnson Drive and Uncle Si Dog met us up there. Both boys were excited to see him walk in & were instantly challenging him to games of Tic Tac Toe and Rock, Paper, Scissors.
After lunch we headed home for a little pre-game nap, or in Logan's case, a little pre-game snuggle.
It was getting close to game time so I woke Kaden up and we headed over to a friend's house. As we arrived I had Becky snap a quick family picture of us all in our new Chiefs gear, gearing up for what we hoped was going to be one exciting game & win.
The game did not disappoint & started off with a kick-off return by Miles Davis. High-fives went around the room but we all knew there was still a lot of game to be played and everyone remembers our last playoff game--Indi & it was an ugly roller-coaster. Thankfully, the Chiefs managed to keep putting points on the scoreboard while denying Houston any. Game over. 30-0 Chiefs & that my friends is our first playoff win in 22 years as Chiefs fans. 30 years for the Royals, 22 years for the Chiefs. I guess our city loves to build suspense.
& I'm pretty sure I could have gotten Justin to do just about anything I wanted that evening seeing how he was on cloud 9 from that victory but instead of going out, we headed to meet Adam and Becky to make a kid swap. Cousin Colton was coming to stay with us for the evening and the boys were super stoked.
Those three kiddos spent the rest of the evening playing air hockey, Twister, catch & finished the night off with a move--the Tooth Fairy.
& woke up the next morning and went right back to playing before we headed off to church. What a great start to our weekend. Now to keep the momentum going when Chiefs head to east to take on New England.

Cheers to 2015
Twenty Fifteen was good to us, really good to us. We celebrated a 4th and a 6th birthday. Spent some wonderful family time at the lake & even traveled to Chicago to see the Royals play---twice. Kaden started kindergarten while Logan started pre-k. Justin and I made it to Vegas for the 4th year in a row & I went on my first ever girls trip to Cabo. And if you made me pick one highlight of the year it has to be the World Series Championship that our Boys in Blue brought back to KC & being able to take our boys to Game 6 of the ALCS and then to the ticker tape parade with 800k of our closest friends in blue---okay, so that would be three. Cheers 2015.
