A Big Brain/Blog Dump

Its been a little while since my last post. Not only have we been busy planning Logan's first birthday but I have been traveling for work too. So sit back, grab an Iced Tea (from Sonic if you're like me) and enjoy a little South update.

1. One of my most favorite things about our new house is the land. We are literally surrounded by green-space. Our house backs up to said green-space and thus, we have no plans on hanging any blinds on our full wall of windows on the back side! We also only have a block and a half walk to our neighborhood lake. It isn't anything much but it is just perfect for us. It has a nice little walking trail and a few places to stop and fish if you would like. This particular evening we pulled out Logan's new car buggy and Kaden took off on his scooter, that is until Daddy just had to have his own turn.

2. My LOVE/HATE relationship with dark hardwood floors. I LOVE our new floors. I HATE having to sweep them constantly due to one Golden Blonde dog of ours, but we won't mention his name. And lets just say that it rhymes with Stoli but it isn't her and this certain dog is getting an appointment with the groomers ASAP. And for the record, Justin is also constantly sweeping the floors so him + me = WAY too much sweeping. Then again, I love the color of the floors and I guess it is just something we will have to put up with it.

3. Saturday morning cartoons-they just aren't what they use to be. Where are the Smurfs, Scooby-Doo, or the Flintstones? Instead we have some iron pumping green dude that bounces around the TV. Thank goodness Kaden doesn't really care what is on and is happy just watching the Madagascar Penguins or Mickey. And even though the cartoons aren't as good as they were when I was growing up, I am pretty sure you would have caught me in the exact same "spot" when I was his age…

4. Washington D.C. It has been a number of years since I have been to our country's capitol and the last time I was there I wasn't really able to get out and about. We were packed full of meetings. This time wasn't all that different, still packed full of meetings but one of the evening meetings was a walking tour of the monuments. I was amazed by how much power you could feel in this city. All the way in your bones. And the pride, the pride of being an American, it just screamed from everyone visiting. I can't wait to be able to take the boys back when they get a little older and I hope they are able to appreciate everything they will see as I did this past week.

5. It is officially birthday week here at the South house. This little guy….

Well he is turning one in 7 very short days!! And you guessed it, I CAN'T believe it. I am not sure where this last year has gone. There have been so many things that have happened over the last year. Bought and sold a house. Took a new hobby to the next level. Kaden turned 2. Friends had babies and more friends got pregnant. And even though I have been so much better at documenting things for Logan than I was with Kaden, it still seems as though it went WAY too fast. Scary thing, the week before Kaden turned one, we were pregnant with this little blue-eyed boy. We didn't know it yet but we were and although we both couldn't believe that they would only be 20 months apart and weren't quite sure how we were going to handle two boys under two. It worked. It worked out perfectly and I couldn't be more in love with this little man. Happy Birthday Week Logan! (And yes Logan, this mommy celebrates birthday weeks, not just days, weeks and in some instances --my birthday-- birthday months!)

Here is a little sneak peek at the theme for the party. I won't lie, I feel so behind and actually disappointed in what I have accomplished thus far, I need to kick this into HIGH gear!!

6. Drive-in Movie Night! Since both Justin and Adam were down at the lake working on the remodel of the lake house bathroom, Becky and Colton came over for a dinner and a movie. Thanks again to Pinterest and all the moving boxes, we made it a Drive-in Movie night. I had the boxes pulled together and then each of the boys went to work on coloring their own car. As you can see, they loved the boxes and what you don't see, they pushed these boxes around the "track" all night long!

But before we turned on We Bought A Zoo we had a little dinner, pizza. Seriously, what more could two little boys what? A tattoo, you say? Well they got that too! Thanks to Papa Murphy's (and Becky) they each got to make their own mini-murphy and while they cooked we applied their tattoos.

As for the movie, it was a great movie but it didn't hold our two, two-year olds' attentions. Unfortunately, they asked for Shrek about 15 minutes into the movie but it was a great movie for older kids or even for adults.

So there you have it. A little recap of the last week since I haven't been on top of the blogging, well haven't been home to do it either! Can't wait to share all the details from Logan's birthday and more importantly, can't wait to celebrate with our dearest family and friends come Saturday!
